Students across the North Hills School District celebrated "Do No Harm" Week from Oct. 13-17, taking part in activities that promoted kindness, inclusion and respect.

At the high school, students added their handprints, names, and messages of encouragement to a banner celebrating diversity and individuality. At the middle school, students signed a banner pledging to "Do No Harm" in their actions, words, and thoughts. Both projects were sponsored by the schools' Diversity Clubs, reinforcing the district’s commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all.

The Do No Harm initiative was created by Dr. Donald Sheffield, a Pittsburgh-area cultural competency consultant, and aligns closely with North Hills’ mission to foster a positive school climate that values diversity, promotes unity, and encourages kindness. The district holds Do No Harm Week in October to coincide with National Bullying Prevention Month.

Dr. Sheffield joined Director of Student and Community Engagement LaMont Lyons on Friday, Oct. 17, to visit both the high school and middle school and observe the student-led activities.

In addition to his work with the district, Dr. Sheffield serves as an advisor to the School Climate and Culture Council, chaired by Mr. Lyons, who also leads both Diversity Clubs.
