The North Hills School District is extending heartfelt thanks to the Perry Highland Women’s Association, whose members delivered a generous donation last week to support the district’s Backpack Initiative and Pantry. Donations were collected during the association’s meeting earlier this month, helping ensure students and families have access to food and essential items when they need them most.

The North Hills Backpack Initiative began more than 13 years ago to help district families facing food insecurity by providing supplemental food over weekends. Today, the program has expanded to serve all North Hills students through both the Backpack Initiative and school-based Pantries.

Elementary students can discreetly receive a weekly bag of food delivered to their school locker, with participating families known only to school counselors and administrators. Middle and high school students may visit their counselor to access food, hygiene products, and personal care items from their school’s Pantry. No sign-up is required.

As the holidays approach, and with the potential for a temporary halt in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which helps millions of Americans buy groceries, the need for community support is greater than ever.

The North Hills Foundation accepts both monetary and item donations for the Backpack Initiative and Pantry. Donation boxes are available in all six district schools and at the Administration Center. Suggested items can be found at www.nhsd.net/backpack.

Monetary donations can be made online (select Backpack Initiative/The Pantry) or by mailing a check payable to the North Hills Foundation:

Your support, like that of the Perry Highland Women’s Association, helps ensure that no North Hills student goes without food or basic necessities.
