Eighth graders visit Oakland's Carnegie Library for research project

North Hills Middle School eighth graders on Team Heinz traveled to the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s main location in Oakland to conduct research for their oral history projects.

Over three days, Feb. 19-21, students worked with library staff to search historic newspapers, analyze photo archives, read government reports, peruse rare collections and check out books.

The students are in the process of combining their research with oral history interviews of community members to create their choice of a documentary or a children's book.

Students also visited the University of Pittsburgh for lunch while in Oakland.

This trip and project has been partially funded by the Association of Middle Level Education  (AMLE) Community Engagement Award Grant for several years.

Approximately 115 students attended this year.
